Zhang Haiying’s impressive ACTION FIGURES SERIES
reflects the same powerful style of the Anti-Vice paintings which proved
so popular in Florence this year. The forceful movement tinged with melancholy
is still there, but the effect is more visceral, freed of the overtly social themes of the
first series.
This exhibition marks Filipe Marques’ first show in China and critics feel
his use of color, uncomplicated lines and nearly mathematical approach will resonate with international collectors now moving away from the more predictable, much copied trends currently dominating Chinese contemporary art.
Diogo Munoz has shown his work in Macao, but this will be his first exhibition in Beijing. Though his work has an intrinsically Portuguese quality, Munoz’ work is fanciful and universal in its appeal. There is an otherworldly quality to each of his paintings which, if translated into text, would replicate the magical realism of South American writers such as Garcia Marques and Laura Esquivel.
